Grassroots Lobbying Efforts by Sane Californians Helping to Thwart Proposition 8
From Equality California:
“Yesterday, EQCA hosted the largest LGBT lobby day in
California’s history. The deep commitment by activists who travelled from every part of the state to Sacramento and then trudge through the rain to ensure that their voices were heard was truly inspirational.
“We lobbied to show the broad support for passage of the two resolutions before the legislature authored by Senator Mark Leno and Assemblymember Tom Ammiano and sponsored by Equality California.
“These resolutions will make it the policy of the California Legislature that Prop 8 —and any future measure that seeks to eliminate a fundamental right from a protected group of Californians —is an invalid revision of the Constitution and must be passed by a two-thirds vote of both the Senate and Assembly prior to being sent to the voters.
“Civil rights leader Dolores Huerta, NCLR Legal Director Shannon Minter, both members of the Equality California Board of Directors, and I, testified in support of the measure at the Assembly Judiciary committee hearing. We were joined by LGBT individuals and allies— who shared their personal stories at the hearing—and leaders of labor, faith, grassroots and civil rights organizations.
“The resolution passed by a 7 to 3 vote and now will move to the Assembly floor for a vote by the entire body. The Senate Judiciary committee is expected to soon take up the Senate resolution.”
I envy you,and i admire your artile very much.
